German utility company RWE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyphen Hydrogen Energy to become the Namibian company’s preferred buyer of green ammonia for export to meet growing energy demand in Europe.
Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, in partnership with German energy firm Enertrag, is developing Namibia’s first green hydrogen project which will produce up to 1.7 million tons of green ammonia by 2027.
Meanwhile RWE is also constructing a green ammonia receiving port terminal in Brunsbuttel through 2026 which could serve as one port of destination for Namibian ammonia, according to a statement.
